Recent technical analysis undertaken as part of the Making Art in Tudor Britain project has revealed that some of the Gallery’s sixteenth-century portraits were painted over pre-existing paintings. The Sheffield University Wind Orchestra, an award-winning ensemble run by the Music Department, is a very active and thriving group with over fifty keen and talented members and gives three major concerts a year at the University. In past years they have performed regularly in the lovely acoustic of The Actors' Church, Covent Garden, usually on the way back from their European tours and they are delighted to be back.
