An Evening with Nicolas Ruston

Last month artrepublic Soho were pleased to present a showcase of British Artist Nicolas Ruston's latest works at the very stylish Loft at the Ivy Club.
Guests were able to admire the latest work as well as gaining an insight into his ideas and inspirations. All while sipping delicious cocktails and drinking in the artistic atmosphere.
Nicolas Ruston is a young British artist, recognised for his scratch paintings depicting popular culture.
His earlier works often reference icons of popular culture such as Superman (Man of Steel, 2000) and Audrey Hepburn (Self Inflicted Discontentment, 2000). Later works depict juxtapositions between contemporary ethos, historical events, political figures, religion and fine art.
His latest series of paintings and installations tackle our relationship with the media and how it shapes our reality. Three of Ruston’s latest Scratch paintings entitled: The Superficial Transparency Of Everything, Consumption and Recession are very powerful and two feature in key scenes in the upcoming film “Dead Man Running” starring Danny Dyer and 50 Cent (cinema release summer 2009).
Visit artrepublic Soho to see his work, the gallery is delighted to have the magnificent scratch paintings ‘We Love Plastic’ and ‘Queens Head’.
