Many people are surprised to learn that there is considerable residential housing in and around Covent Garden.
The George Peabody Trust has around 2,000 residences for families and older residents on Parker Street, Wild Street, Bedfordbury and elsewhere nearby. There is also a smaller number of private apartments which command some of the highest rents in the country, many of these properties are used by celebrities or foreign businesspeople as pieds-à-terre.
For those who live in what is largely a transient area, there still needs to be service provision for their day-to-day needs. Spiritual needs are afforded by a selection of places of worship in the vicinity and there are associations for locals and associations for the elderly and youth clubs for the younger residents.
Meanwhile, amongst the retail outlets which cater largely for the visitors to the area there are also launderettes, corner shops and post offices to allow the convenience becoming of any residential community.
