Congratulations to Camden’s new Mayor Cllr Jonathan Simpson who took up office recently and has pledged to focus his mayoralty around the borough’s proud musical heritage. The inauguration was a starry affair with Maya Talwatte, Bangla Shur and the London Gay Men’s Chorus providing entertainment for a very busy council chamber. Fittingly, Jonathan announced that his chosen charity is to be the Roundhouse Trust which champions the arts with special reference to the education and training of young people.
This year’s Mayoress of Camden is the broadcaster Amy Lamé and the deputy Mayor is Cllr Abdul Quadir. We look forward to a year of astute judgement and the opportunity to enhance Camden’s creative talents. Jonathan told us: “It is a fantastic honour to be the Mayor of Camden. I’ve been proud to represent the council since 2002, and now I intend to use this special year to do all I can to promote the borough’s incredible music and to encourage everybody to be active as citizens”.
