It was with sadness that we learned of the death of one of the area’s most respected politicians last month. Angela Hooper had served as a Conservative councillor in Westminster for 25 years with vigour, professionalism and great enthusiasm. She died on 20 March following a lengthy battle against cancer.
During her time at City Hall, Angela became a popular and respected councillor who held the chairmanship of the Licensing, Town Planning, and Leisure & Libraries committees and was awarded the CBE in 1985 for public and political service. Furthermore, Angela served as Lord Mayor of Westminster in 1994-95.
Our thoughts are with Angela’s sister the Baroness Hooper and the many people she touched during an active and decorated lifetime.
Councillor Carolyn Keen said, “Angela had a distinguished public career but she was always very discreet about this. Her work in the ward and record as a chairman on various committees earned her respect and a personal following that not many politicians merit.”
A service of thanksgiving for an extraordinary life will be held at Westminster Cathedral at 11.00 on 27 May.
